Welcome

Artist Frank Duyvelshoff has been a full-time resident of Clarksburg, Ontario, since 2021. He was born and raised in Oakville, Ontario, and moved back there while commuting to work in Toronto. He and his wife, Carol, raised a family and continued to live in Oakville until his retirement from a successful career in the corporate world.

When he finished full-time working, he enrolled in the Sheridan College visual arts program attaining a continuing education Fine Arts Certificate.

In recent years, Frank has focused on his passions, keeping active and creating things. Whether its golfing, staying active, developing his living space or in his artwork, he focuses on the smallest of details. It’s either right, or it isn’t.

Frank’s paintings are inspired by life, nature, light, and colour. They often depict architecture, old vehicles, landscapes, and animals. He has a particular interest in subjects that convey “Rural Demise” such as broken-down buildings, vehicles, and barns. Frank continually seeks interesting subjects to capture, finding great appeal in the interplay of light and shadows, especially during the morning and evening sun.

Most of his work is done in acrylic on canvas although when inspired, he does work in graphite.

  • Frank welcomes custom work for other people. Using their images and insights, he works to understand the source of their memories. Be it a rusted relic, a childhood home or even favourite pet, he tries to capture the ‘je ne sais quoi’ emotional impact of the memory. Ask him for examples.

  • Frank mainly uses photographs as the source for most of his paintings. He is inspired by the works of Lauren Harris and the Group of Seven and realism painters such as Alex Coville and Andrew Wyeth.

capturing light, capturing life.

Working mainly in acrylic, Frank's paintings are inspired by life, nature, light and colour; "I continually seek interesting subjects to capture, both to challenge myself and because the imagery itself has great appeal for me. I've always been a fan of light and shadows, and I love the way light adds depth and character to structures. The morning and evening sun are especially interesting because of the cast shadows."
